EPA Regulatory Action

Media Statement

Earlier this month, Port Waratah Coal Services received advice from the EPA of two penalty notices arising from incidents in late 2018.

In each case, the EPA noted that that Port Waratah self-reported these matters, took prompt action to minimise environmental impacts and has since implemented additional measures to avoid any potential reoccurrence of a similar nature.

Port Waratah takes full responsibility for its actions and is committed to improving our performance through investing in our people, systems and equipment.  Specifically, in response to these incidents, improvements have included the installation of a separate water supply line and other engineering modifications, new risk assessment procedures and enhanced staff training.

Port Waratah takes our licence to operate and obligations to the community and environment seriously and respects the role Government regulation plays in protecting our Harbour. We apologise unreservedly for the incident and acknowledge that incidents of this nature are unacceptable.
