Community Relationships
Our community is very important to PWCS. We are constantly striving to develop new and maintain established relationships with individuals and community groups.
PWCS contributes to projects that provide ongoing value to the community. PWCS management and employees recognise the constant need for assisting the community and actively participate with funding of various community-based organisations and projects including:
- Hunter Medical Research Institute;
- Newcastle Surf Life Saving Club;
- Hunter Prostate Cancer Alliance;
- $ for $ fund raising projects;
- University Scholarships;
- School Scholarships; and
- Apprenticeships.
Hunter Medical Research Institute
This local Institute promotes medical research. PWCS sponsors researchers to examine the onset of schizophrenia.
NEWCASTLE SURF LIFE SAVING CLUB
This local club has a 100-year history in Newcastle. PWCS sponsors the purchase of new equipment.
HUNTER PROSTATE CANCER ALLIANCE (HPCA)
This organisation aims to assist individuals and groups with information about prostate cancer, promote testing and encourage the development of support systems. For more information on PWCS' work with HPCA, click here.

Employees and PWCS work as a partnership for various local charities in donating money, eg, The Cancer Council, Westpac Rescue Helicopter, Salvation Army Toy Run and Hunter Melanoma Foundation.
University Scholarships
PWCS offers two university scholarships per year each year valued at $7,000 per annum. Throughout the duration of the scholarship, the student will be provided with the opportunity to undertake paid summer vacation work at PWCS.
School Scholarships
PWCS in partnership with the Department of Education and Training and the Catholic Schools Office has established a two year Vocation, Education and Training (VET) scholarship for students in Years 11 and 12 in Business Services and Metals and Engineering. Twelve scholarships are offered each year each valued at $4,200. Throughout the program, students undertake work placements at PWCS to assist in their development and gain experience in the workplace.
APPRENTICESHIPS
PWCS in partnership with HGT Australia provides workplace training and skills development opportunities for people interested in training as an Electrical or Mechanical apprentice. PWCS offers two electrical and two mechanical training opportunities each year.
TOUR information
PWCS has experienced and dedicated tour guides who are available to conduct tours of our Kooragang Coal Terminal.
Tours are available on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. If you would like to book a tour please click here (66kb PDF file) and complete the Tour Request Form or contact PWCS' Reception on (02) 4907 2000.
Tours take approximately 1.5 hours to complete and consist of a presentation, followed by question time and then a site tour of our Kooragang Coal Terminal.
PWCS has a duty of care to protect all persons on site. Therefore, all visitors must remain in the vehicle at all times and are not permitted to leave the vehicle to view the plant.
PWCS has a tour vehicle available which has a maximum capacity of seven (7) visitors. Groups larger than this must provide their own vehicle to accommodate all visitors for the site tour.
Please Note: Due to safety regulations children under 12 years of age are not permitted to participate in tours.
PWCS tours are free of charge and are available for both corporate and private groups.
